One of my commissions from last year was recycling a clients vintage musquash fur jacket into a trim, which was then to be added to a Harris Tweed wool blanket. My client came to me with this idea, which I was very excited to do as it was the first time someone had asked me to do this.

Her vintage fur jacket belonged to her late mother, it was a hip length jacket which meant it couldn’t be made into a full fur throw as it would be really small. I usually would suggest doing cushions from a jacket this size however my client had the genius idea of making a trim using the fur and then adding it to a beautiful blue wool throw. I love the pairing of the blue wool and the brown fur, I think they work so beautifully together.

This commission looks simple but it took a lot of preparation, cutting and hand sewing to get the finished look. The whole trim was sewn on by hand so it was a real labour of love. The plus side of repurposing a fur like this is that as the main body of the throw was wool and the trim fur, it meant that the throw itself was very light weight. It also meant you could have a large throw, as quite often you are limited to small throws with furs as there is always less fur than you think.
